Don't worry y'all, I'm in Pittsburgh. That's right, I made it. I've been chilling out with old friends, baking and eating tons of cookies, and I've even surviving being completely ignored by a certain someone. (Just in time for the holidays) In other news, I have decided not to touch my other grad school application for a couple weeks unless absolutely necessary. Thus far, it is not necessary at all. ;)
The friend I am staying with has been commissioned by her boss to make cookies. 10 dozen cookies to be exact. And since we wanted cookies of our own, we have now made about 16-17 dozen cookies. We have made Pecan Tassies, Fudge Brownie Tassies, Russian Tea cookies, Peanut butter Blossoms and TWO kinds of sugar cookies. That's right, soft AND crunchy. For the crunchy ones, we used the cookie cutters I gave her for Christmas. We made cookies in the shape of frogs, pigs, penguins and even "ladies' dresses." The dresses we decorated with all sorts of sprinkles, including sprinkles in the shape of dolphins. All in all it's been a cookie explosion.
Earlier in the day we went to campus where I used to go to school. I was intending on buying a new sweatshirt with the school logo, since the one I bought four years ago has seen better days. It was strange because I hadn't been on campus in two years and it looked different while also looking exactly the same. There is now a new park. There are lots of new stores including an American Apparel. (Seriously?! Are there already that many hipsters here?) Of course when we went into the buildings where I spent hours studying I felt uneasy. Was I imagining the feeling of dread, or did I really have a paper due? I shivered and shook it off, but it was creepy. While being a real live adult is much more difficult there was a look in the eyes of those sitting next to giant piles of books that I did not envy. I decided against the sweatshirt.
In the end, tonight one of my best friends in the world is coming to visit, next week tons more friends will be having a girlie sleepover. While this holiday season is not turning out to be the way that I planned it, I am feeling really lucky to be surrounded by people who care about me.
Also, the friends I am staying with got me a small wooden stage with curtains for performing puppet shows! Awesome.
